Scholarships for Open Identity Summit 2013

[Michelau/Bamberg/Bayreuth, July 25th, 2013] The regional chapter Upper Franconia within the German Computer Science Society (Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V.), the IT-Cluster Oberfranken e.V. and the Open eCard Project cooperate and will award a limited number of scholarships for free attendance to Open Identity Summit 2013, which will take place from September 9th to 11th 2013 at Banz Monestary in Upper Franconia (Germany). Deadline for applications is August 30th 2013.

International Open Source and Identity Management Symposium

Open standards and interfaces as well as open source technologies play a central role in the current identity management landscape and against the background of the recent mass surveillance scandals it can be expected that the importance of open source for the implementation of trustable information and communication systems will further increase in the future. Against this background international experts conduct the Open Identity Summit 2013 (http://openidentity.eu) from September 9th to 11th 2013 at the picturesque Banz Monestary in order to discuss the state of the art and future trends with respect to open source, identity management and cloud computing.

Scholarship for Students and Open Source Developers

The regional chapter Upper Franconia within the German Computer Science Society (Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V.), the IT-Cluster Oberfranken e.V. and the Open eCard Project cooperate and will award a limited number of scholarships for free attendance to Open Identity Summit 2013. The scholarships are open for everybody, but especially address students and open source developers.

Deadline for applications is August 30th 2013

The application for a scholarship which offers the free participation at Open Identity Summit 2013 and a one year probationary membership in Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. can be submitted until August 30th 2013 via e-mail to oid2013-grant@openecard.org and should contain a suitable letter of motivation.

There are about 250 members in the regional chapter of Upper Franconia within the German Computer Science Society (Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V.) (http://rg-oberfranken.gi.de/). Concurrently there is a very agile and attractive growth of many small and medium companies, which settled nearby the various universities in the area.

In the IT-Cluster Oberfanken e.V. (http://www.it-cluster-oberfranken.de) companies and intstitutions from all over Upper Franconia merge to a focused regional network in the field of information and communication technology. In this way a knowledge and development pool evolves which brings advantage for all participating stakeholders.

About the Open eCard Project

The Open eCard Team consists of industrial and academic experts, who have joined forces to provide an Open Source and platform-independent implementation of ISO/IEC 24727, such that arbitrary applications can easily access arbitrary smart cards for authentication and signature purposes. A first result of the project is the Open eCard App, which provides an Open Source alternative to proprietary eID clients.
